The photographers and the different styles each of them possess made for a visually and conceptually entertaining unit. Specifically, my project articulated the work of Philip-Lorca DiCorcio. He was an interesting photographer to analyze and research because of his experience with photography and the amount of detail each of his images displayed. With this being said, we are now transitioning into a unit surrounded photos which come together to create an essay. Many of these have discrete objectives while others seem to be organized in a random fashion. However, this blog will be used to highlight a magnum photographer from the magnum photographer website. Out of all the highly talented and decorated photographers on that site, the photograp...

Philip-Lorca DiCorcia Critique Blog

October 31, 2021  Philip-Lorca DiCorcia By: Connor Albaugh          There are numerous photographers that are incredibly talented in their respective fields. Specifically, the idea of portrait photography is of the essence in this blog. As I looked through the presentation, there were a lot of photographers that caught my eye through their different compositions and style for each of their photos. However, one of the photographers that I could relate to and was visually inspired by was Philip-Lorca DiCorcio. Philip is the very last photographer in the "portrait photography" presentation and his work was far above all of the other photographers seen in these slides. Before I dive into his incredible accomplishments and the beginning of his career, it is important to visit his early life. Philip happened to be "born in 1951 in Hartford, Connecticut (Article #1). His family is not originally from the United States because they had previously...

Annie Leibovitz

October 25, 2021 Annie Leibovitz   By: Connor Albaugh           It is simply incredible just how talented photographers are and what they can do with a camera at their feet. From pictures taken on your phone to pictures framed in museums, each and every photo displays something unique, special, and memorable. However, the final product of a photograph all depends on the person, what device they used, and the story behind it. With this being said, one thing that I did not know before the construction of this blog is the work of “Annie Leibovitz.” She happens to be one of the best photographers in the world, specifically focusing on portrait photography (Article 1). Born in 1949 on October 2 in Waterbury, Connecticut, a star had entered the world (Article 1). It wasn't until the year of 1967 when she found her love for photography “when she enrolled at San Francisco Art Institute” where she was originally studying painting (Article 1). From then o...

Nan Goldin

October 20, 2021 Nan Goldin   By: Connor Albaugh           As we transition from a “color and light” designated unit of photography, we now focus our attention to the unit of “self portraiture.” The presentation of this idea of photography was very consuming and visually interesting. One thing that caught my eye through this lecture about this topic happened to be the diversity of artists and how different self portraits displayed different messages, emotions, and detail. Most notably, one of these photographers stood out from the rest and was able to tell stories through her pictures. This happened to be “Nan Goldin.” Having being giving the gift of life, her origins began as she was born in Washington, DC in 1953 (Article 4). Her early life and childhood was filled with struggle, passion, and deep connections with her surroundings. As uncomfortable as some of her images can be to view, her self portraits of herself and the world around her make...
