April 18th, 2022 Abelardo Morell By: Connor Albaugh                It is crazy to think that we are only two weeks away from the end of the semester. In the time that we have been in this class, there have been so many poignant presentations and photographers that we were able to cover and analyze. These served as a good way not only to admire and think critically about an artists work, but as a way in which one was able to display their creativity through their own unique style of photography. As an aspiring photographer myself, I found these as opportunities to grow technically and visually on behalf of what I am able to capture through the lens of my camera. Over these two semester, there have been easy and hard assignments, both of which I handled well. I learned a lot through doing these assignments and I went to do as much as experiment with my camera and found out what it was capable of. For this last assignmen...

Hiroshi Sugimoto

April 12th, 2022 Hiroshi Sugimoto By: Connor Albaugh               As we continue through these various blogs, I always learn something new. Wether it be a photographer's background, their style, or an impact they have had, there is always that one thing I take away that I deem meaningful for my own photography knowledge and improvements. We are nearing the end of an incredibly odd semester. This happens to be the second to last blog scheduled in this class and it seems like I typed the first one yesterday. For how weird this semester has been, it has flown by and I have been able to learn quite a lot about new photography strategies and about different photographers who all have their own unique touch.                With this being said, it is time to take a deep glimpse into another photographer. The photographer at hand here is not exactly the style that I try to mimic in my assignments ...

Alec Soth

April 5th, 2022 Alec Soth By: Connor Albaugh             While we continue to take on the challenge of a long term project and find an style that motivates us and inspires us to create unique works of art on our own, it is important to settle down at certain points and look at the work o of the photographers. Taking the time to view photographs or artwork from a specific photographer or artist can only help us. It can give us certain ideas, touch up on some technical aspects, and give us a general idea of how some of the best photographers portray their work. With this in mind, it would certainly pose as a learning experience for me and many others because the aspects taken into account for each photo you view or on behalf of a certain photographer can not only improve our techniques, but provide another view or angle that one may not have noticed. With this in mind, the photographer we are taking a look at today is a very interesting one. H...

Michael Kenna

March 29th, 2022 Michael Kenna   By: Connor Albaugh         Over the past couple of weeks, the focus of our  Art340  Photography class happened to be on the topic of " The Constructed Image ". This was the first time that I had done something like that and the time I spent on behalf of this project involved a lot of experimentation and learning. For my final products, I was petty satisfied with my work although my creativity and execution of these particular images could have been much better. But, being that I learned a lot of the stuff about constructing an image during the work period, I am very proud of how my work came out.         After having several weeks off from blogging, it is finally time that we get back on the grind and shift our focus to the new project that has been given to us. The project happens to be " The Long Term Project " which is simply a project that will show photos, text, and ...

Joel Grimes

February 22nd, 2022 Joel Grimes   By: Connor Albaugh            One thing that I really enjoy doing is taking the opportunity to explore a new photographer. In the previous assignment which happened to include studio, environmental, and still life photographs, I was able to learn about the use of studio lighting and the importance of flash in a photograph coupled with available lighting for the "environment" you are in. These two ideas are going to be incredibly crucial for this upcoming assignment which deals with "composing images." When the power point was introduced, the amount of photographers there were for this particular genre of photography is truly remarkable. Each photographer has their own unique and different style that the follow to make their images special. However, one photographer that really sparked my interest is one I haven't heard of prior to being exposed to the presentation. His name is Joel Grimes  a...

Richard Avedon

February 1st, 2022 Richard Avedon  By: Connor Albaugh           It is truly remarkable to have the opportunity of being able to look at several photographer’s work and see how different and unique each of their styles are. For the amount of time, effort, and focus they invest in their work and their subjects, they deserve to be recognized more so than none. It is paramount that we spend this time to review and critique their work because things other photographers happen to do and implement can be a way to learn from past mistakes and improve my overall work, for example. Moving on from “still life,” we make a slight transition into the genre of studio photography. As I looked through the PowerPoint, there were so many photographers that stuck out to me because of their style and the attraction of their images. However, the one photographer that stuck out to me happened to be Richard Avedon. Some of his images are quite odd and the angle in whic...

Neil Winokur

January 25th, 2022 Neil Winokur   By: Connor Albaugh                     After a great semester of blogs in the previous year, this blog will be the first blog written since the beginning of Digital Photography II. I am very excited to get back to the photographing process as well as being able to apply my skills in classroom assignments. With high aspirations and ideas, I am going to try very hard to "one-up" the work that I was able to create in the previous semester. I believe many of my pieces were truly special, some being intricate while others were simple, yet creative. I would like to have the same balance in this photography class and I am ready to get to work. For my first blog, I have decided to focus my attention on a photographer by the name of Neil Winokur . Before I dive into his early life leading up to his career, there is something important to consider here. A lot of the photographers that I v...
