May 4th, 2023  Adam Ferguson  By: Connor Albaugh              As I am researching for this blog, I realized that this is the last and final one for this semester. Overall, this semester was extremely long and hard. There were a lot of ups and downs, but for the most part, I was able to find my way and do my absolute best on each and every assignment that I had due. Junior year is coming to a close and this is my last and final assignment for all of my classes which is crazy to think about as well as comprehend mentally. With this in mind, there were a lot of photographers that I looked at and researched about when it came to finding inspiration for my final project. The photographer that I ultimately ended up choosing goes by the name of Adam Ferguson .                Ferguson was born in 1978 (Article #2). “Regional New South Wales, Australia” was the birthplace of the now-renowned photographer (Article #2). Out of every career possible, Ferguson choose photography. On behalf of scho

April 19th, 2023  Matt Black  By: Connor Albaugh             If there is one person that I am excited to write a blog about and analyze photographically, its the photographer by the name of Matt Black . Black is a US born photographer “born in 1970” (Article #1). He grew up “a vast agricultural area in the heart of the state” which happens to be “in a small town in California’s Central Valley” (Article #1). On behalf of photography, he began “at a young age” (Article #1). He was given an opportunity for his first photography task, which happened to be “working for his hometown newspaper” as a newspaper photographer (Article #1 and #2). This job was important for him, and decided that he wanted to pursue higher education. Black “studied Latin American and US Labor History” at “San Francisco State University” (Article #1). Ultimately, photography wasn’t necessarily a well known subject in his family. He was the only photographer in his family and “he taught himself” how to be a photogra

Sebastião Salgado

April 17th, 2023  Sebastião Salgado  By: Connor Albaugh             Salgado is a much different photographer that I am not used to seeing or researching about. He was born in the year of 1944 “in Aimorés, Brazil” (Article #1). Interestingly enough, not only was he born in Brazil, but he was born on a farm. This farm “was more than 50 percent rainforest” as Salgado “lived with incredible birds, incredible animals, swam in small rivers with caimans, and everything produced on the farm they consumed” (Article #2). Unfortunately, Salgado left his home town to pursue a better life for himself despite the presence his environment had on him physically and emotionally. Before “photography in the early 1970s,” Salgado had “trained to be an economist” (Article #1). He chose to attend São Paulo University where Salgado would graduate in 1968 “with a master’s degree in economics (Article #1). After his master’s, Salgado still wasn’t finished with his education. Three years later, Salgado attende

March 27th, 2023  Arnold Newman  By: Connor Albaugh              It has been a month since the last published blog. The duration of the month leading up to this blog focused on two assignments: one happened to be reflections while the other was a composition, light, and shadow one. The reflection assignment was simply an assignment to gather reflections in any way possible that would be interesting and visually entertaining while still fulfilling the origins of the assignment. Overall, I thought this assignment wasn’t bad and definitely was on the easier side of things. However, the composition, light, and shadow assignment was quite difficult. There were some images that were hard to obtain and photograph technically. The two hardest were the silhouette and the extreme contrast photographs. Overall, we had to have 17 different photos that fulfilled things such as depth of field, angles, etc. In total, we made 6 prints, as one would be a reflection and the other five were from the com

Ralph Gibson

February 26th, 2023  Ralph Gibson By: Connor Albaugh               We have had the opportunity to examine quite a few incredible photographers with exemplary work over the past couple of months. Not only is there work popular, but their compositions are of the highest quality in the field of photography. We shift our focus to another talent in the field of photography, one who challenges the thoughts of his viewers artistically and cognitively. His name is Ralph Gibson .                In 1939, an American photographer by the name of Ralph Gibson was “born in Hollywood, California” (Article #2). “His father was an assistant director to Alfred Hitchcock” (Article #2). He was an English filmmaker and this allowed young Ralph to see his dad at work making films. Visiting  his dad allowed him to see all of the things he did as a filmmaker. “He was impressed by the power of the camera lens and the intensity of the lights” (Article #2). Being that these are two very important things associa
